Upcoming Mentoring Sponsored by N6ACS Radio Club

Did you know that January is National Mentoring Month?

And with that in mind, we have some great and timely news!

The LAFD ACS Radio Club is once again sponsoring Educational Mentoring for community members during January/February at Old Fire Station 77 (see http://lafdacsbss77s.blogspot.com/ for details on Old FS 77).

This Mentoring will be launched on Saturday, January 14th at 10 am with the Emergency Power Symposium by Marty Woll (N6VI). [Details on this event are shown below.]

The Educational Mentoring will then begin on Saturday, January 21, 2006 and includes comprehensive license prep sessions for the FCC Technician Class License (no-Code). These classroom sessions will be geared toward Home Study and an online course is currently in development by the Club Presidency. The classroom course requires online enrollment via www.lafdacs.org.

In addition, a Morse Code Workshop is planned for people who want to upgrade to the General or Extra Class. Online enrollment is also recommended for this course.

All Radio Club mentoring functions during 2006 are free and open to the General Public, with optional donations go to the Old Fire Station 77 Emergency Communication Equipment Fund.

February 25 Exam Cram Session, followed by FCC Exam

EMERGENCY POWER SYMPOSIUM – Veteran Ham Marty Woll (N6VI) presented an informative Equipment Mentoring session at Old Fire Station 77 on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 10 am. Topics included: Equipment Selection, Developing a Power Budget, Power Storage & Power Sources.

FIRST ANNUAL FOX HUNT - ACS Radio Club Vice President Alberto Casanova (KF6UXT) is actively working with Veteran Ham & ACS Member Dick Vaughn (K6LPO) to set aside 2 dates in preparation of our First Annual ACS Radio Club Fox Hunt. The initial meeting will include an introduction and workshop for a Fox Hunt followed by the actual Fox Hunt on a second date (Dates & Times TBD.
